Old fashioned history class

Calvin_remembers_date
This Calvin and Hobbes cartoon offers an accurate depiction of how history has been taught in school. There has traditionally been a focus on remembering dates, names, and things such as state capitals. The problem, as Calvin points out, is most of the information is soon forgotten after the test is over. With so much information readily available on the internet should school still be forcing kids to memorize dates and state capitals?
